Another successful meet at Avery Park or as we like to think of it Oringen-lite! Jay Austin flew in from Virginia, and Kean Williams drove down from Seattle especially for this spectacular event. Interestingly half of the registered groups were from the Portland area. Is this because our resident cheerleader Dave Derlacki was exhorting his Boy Scout hordes to descend upon as many orienteering events as possible just last week? In all, we had 75 people started on the course today which rivals the 70+ we had at Chip Ross last year.

On the competition forefront, Brandon and Tom Chastain sizzled the white course in 16 minutes leaving the meet directors mouths open in awe! Gretchen McNeely squeezed out a narrow victory on the Yellow course finishing a scant minute ahead of Jan Harris, Pulele Kimball, Mike Leachman, and Nicole Breedlove. Andy Dale left burn marks in the grass as he smoked the Orange course in 22 minutes. Erik Osborn was hot on his heels with a 23 minute run. As usual, Jessica Rykken took top honors for the women with a speedy 36-minute time.

This meet was one of the easiest meets we have ever put on because of the flood of volunteers calling up asking to help. We had way more than we needed. Thanks!
