Sunshine arrived just in time for Sunday's OSU campus orienteering meet. We had a good turnout, with lots of first-time orienteers out on the white and yellow courses, and a few more experienced folks zig-zagging their way through the score-O course. Cheryl Yoder brought up most of her Outdoor Recreation class all the way from Umpqua Community College, and the Lewisburg Saddle walking group dropped down to do the yellow course after their regular Sunday morning walk. I also noticed at least 3 strollers going out on the courses, so we may have to add a new competitive division at future meets! We're pleased you could all make it, and hope to see you again at the Bald Hill meet on December 7th, where the orienteering experience will be a little more "wild."

Congratulations to Don Boucher for sweeping across the white course in under 25 minutes, while Bob Davidson narrowly edged out up-and-coming 4 yr-old Jesse Marley for 2nd place. Jesse's dad, Kevin, out on his first orienteering course, snuck into first place on the yellow course, just seconds ahead of orienteering pro 2 yr-old Andrea Torniainen and her daddy, Erik. Doug Hansen and Samantha Snyder were the first mixed team to finish the yellow course, and Mary Camarata was the lead woman, with Vicki and Sarah Harlos close behind. The one-hour time limit for the score-O didn't seem to pose much of a problem for some participants, well done Brian Russell--20 controls in 36 minutes!

The Gazette Times came out and did a wonderful story on the meet. It came out in the Monday, November 18, edition.

Thanks to all the volunteers--Dave Derlacki, Paula Whipple, Jeff Watson, Erik Torniainen, Ben Legg, and Sheila Halpin, who made the meet such a success. And special thanks to Sheila for all the hard work making the map.
