We had an amazingly beautiful spring day for orienteering the flatlands of the Willamette River at Minto Brown Park in Salem. A few people tried out orienteering for the first time, and reported they had fun. Marci and Cameron Johnson had so much fun, they went out on another course, and by the end of the afternoon had put in quite a few kilometers of orienteering! Perhaps because of the alluring flat terrain and fast trails, we had a record 21 individuals/groups on the Long (Red) Course. Route choice to control #16 was evident on each runner’s return—a direct route resulted in bloody tangles with the blackberry thickets (not intended by the course setter)…All in all, a fun day in great weather.
